the queen delight, and why it isn't on the menu every day.

mangosteen is called the queen of fruits for a reason: white segments somewhere between lychee and peach, inside a deep purple rind. no one in malaysia had served it on shaved ice: it is slow to prepare, the season is short, and the fruit bruises easily. we did it regardless. the queen delight sold a thousand kilograms of mangosteen in its first seven days, and it has been the bowl guests travel across kl for ever since.
how it's built.
a mound of snow ice, original milk or lychee for a lighter base, with mangosteen segments opened by hand to order. no syrup, no purée; the fruit is the flavour. the milk base is the one to try first.
why it's seasonal.
mangosteen does not grow to a schedule. when the fruit is good we serve it; when it is not, we would rather serve nothing than something we are not proud of. that is why it is not on the menu every day. for daily availability, check our instagram.
how reservation works.
at the cheras main branch, members can reserve a queen delight online on weekdays: the window opens at 11am and closes at 5pm or once the day's slots are gone. you pay RM35 in store when you collect. it holds the bingsu, not a table. weekends and public holidays are walk-in only. if it says "slots full", that refers to the online allocation; walk-in stock may still be available. at central market it is always walk-in.
